404 page
Configure the missing-page template
Section titled “Configure the missing-page template”Open the theme editor’s 404 template, then Not found. This controls the missing-page content; it does not create redirects or repair broken links. Manage redirects separately in Shopify.
Settings
Section titled “Settings”| Setting | Default | How to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Empty-state heading | Empty | Use the translated main heading, normally Page not found, or write your own. The existing playful subtitle stays translated. |
| Empty-state text | Empty | Use the normal explanation, or add formatted recovery guidance. |
| Shopping button label | Empty | Use the translated Back to shopping label, or enter another useful label. |
| Shopping button link | Empty | Open all products by default, or choose a real collection or page. |
| Show search form | On | Show a standard search form. The shopping and Home links remain when this is off. |
| Empty-state product collection | Not selected | Optionally show up to four actual products. An empty or unselected collection produces no suggestions. |
Recommended workflow
Section titled “Recommended workflow”Keep the explanation short, preserve search when useful, and choose a small relevant collection only if it helps shoppers. Suggestions link to full product details so shoppers can select variants or complete gift-card and personalization fields.
The search form and links work without JavaScript. Check the actual missing URL on your storefront as well as the editor; a local template preview alone does not prove that HTTP routing and redirects are correct.
Common questions
Section titled “Common questions”Why are suggestions missing? Select a collection with products available on the online store.
Does this replace URL redirects? No. Use redirects to fix known old links; the 404 template helps when a requested page still cannot be found.
