Video
Cover image falls back to the uploaded video preview when empty. Loop video applies to uploaded videos and YouTube/Vimeo links. Automatic playback respects the theme animation setting and reduced-motion preference; shoppers can still press Play video. Autoplay requests muted playback; availability and browser playback restrictions still apply.
Video shows a single video with a title above it and an optional caption below. Shoppers see your chosen cover image with a play button first; the actual video only loads when they start it, so the page stays fast. There are no layout styles to pick — the section is one centered 16:9 player, and everything else is content.
What it does
Section titled “What it does”Use this section when one video deserves the whole width of the page: a “how it works” clip, a day-in-the-life brand film, a single customer story. For several videos in one section, use the Multi-video banner instead.
You can host the video in Shopify (upload it in admin) or link a YouTube or Vimeo video. A Shopify-hosted video takes priority — if both are filled, the upload plays and the link is ignored.
Add it to a page
Section titled “Add it to a page”- In Shopify admin, go to Online Store → Themes and click Edit theme. (Older admin versions label this button Customize.)
- Open the template where you want the section.
- Click Add section and choose Video.
- Add your video under Video (uploaded to Shopify) or paste a link under Or video URL.
Set it up: quick start
Section titled “Set it up: quick start”- Add the section (see above).
- Replace the Heading (“See the pack in action”) with your title, and add a Subheading if you want a small line above it.
- Upload your video. For the smoothest results, upload it to Shopify and select it under Video (uploaded to Shopify) — YouTube or Vimeo links work through Or video URL.
- Choose a Cover image — the still shoppers see before pressing play. Without one, a neutral placeholder shows.
- Decide on Autoplay (muted) and Loop video (details below).
- Add a short Text under the player if the video needs context or a call to action.
- Save and press play in the preview to test.

|---|---|---|---|
| Subheading | Empty | Text | Small line above the heading |

| Text | Empty | Rich text | A short caption below the player, for context or a link to learn more |
Images and content tips
Section titled “Images and content tips”- Cover image: a frame from the video itself works best, exported at 16:9 (for example 1600 × 900). Shoppers should be able to guess the video’s content from it.
- Upload to Shopify when you can. Shopify-hosted videos play from fast, reliable servers and keep shoppers on your page instead of sending them to a video site. Keep clips short and compress them before uploading.
- YouTube and Vimeo links load the video site’s own player. Autoplay for linked videos depends on the visitor’s browser — many browsers only start the video after the visitor taps it, especially on phones, where shoppers tap to play with sound.
- Add a Text line under the player if the video has no narration — it doubles as a summary for shoppers browsing with sound off.
Good to know
Section titled “Good to know”- The page does not wait for the video. The video file only downloads when it starts — through autoplay or the play button — so the section never slows down the page load.
- Autoplay is always silent. Browsers do not allow websites to play sound uninvited, so an autoplaying video runs muted; shoppers turn the sound on with the player’s controls.
- Loop video applies to Shopify-hosted videos. YouTube and Vimeo control their own repeat behavior, and the setting does not change it.
- Without any video, the section shows a neutral placeholder so you can still see and position it in the editor.
Example setups
Section titled “Example setups”Product demo. A 30-second clip of a treat dispenser in use, uploaded to Shopify, cover image of the dog mid-interaction, Autoplay (muted) on so passers-by see motion, Text with one line: “See how the slow-feed lid works.” Place under the product story on the home page.
Customer story (linked). A Vimeo link to a rescue-dog adoption story, Cover image with a warm still from the film, Autoplay off so shoppers choose to watch with sound, Heading “Resilience, one paw at a time.” Place on an About page.
Common questions
Section titled “Common questions”I filled in both a Shopify video and a YouTube link — which one plays? The Shopify-hosted video. The URL setting is only used when no video is uploaded. Remove one of the two to avoid confusion.
Why doesn’t my YouTube video start by itself with Autoplay on? For linked videos, the visitor’s browser decides — most only allow autoplay silently, and some block it until the visitor taps. Upload the video to Shopify for the most consistent autoplay behavior.
The video starts on its own but there is no sound. That is the Autoplay (muted) behavior: browsers require the first play to be silent. Shoppers unmute with the controls on the player. Turn Autoplay off if you want the video to wait for a tap and play with sound.
My cover image looks cropped. The player is a fixed 16:9 shape. Export your cover image at 16:9 so nothing important is trimmed.
