Testimonials

Testimonials shows short customer quotes as a row of cards. Each card carries a star rating, the quote, the customer’s name and details, and — if you like — their photo, a photo of the product in use, and a link to that product.

The quotes and ratings are content you write yourself: paste in feedback from real customers, pick a star rating for each quote, and describe the person in your own words (for example “Pet parent”). The theme does not collect reviews or pull in ratings from anywhere else, so only ever publish words your customers actually gave you.

Use this section to build trust on the home page, a landing page, or under a product grid. Each card shows:

  • a star rating from 1 to 5 that you choose;
  • the quote text;
  • the customer’s name and a short detail line under it;
  • an optional avatar (or their initial in a colored circle if you don’t upload one);
  • an optional photo at the top of the card, such as a customer photo of the product;
  • an optional product strip at the bottom that links to a product in your catalog.

The section ships with three example quotes so you can see the layout right away — replace their text with your own before publishing.

  1. In Shopify admin, go to Online Store → Themes and click Edit theme. (Older admin versions label this button Customize.)
  2. Open the template where you want the section (for example, the home page).
  3. Click Add section and choose Testimonials.
  4. The section starts with three example quotes. Click each one in the sidebar to replace its text.
  5. Click Add block → Testimonial to add more quotes.

Two settings control the look:

SettingWhat it changes
Card styleWhite card puts each quote on a plain white card with a thin border. Tint card gives the cards soft pastel backgrounds that cycle through cream, lilac, mint, and apricot
LayoutGrid lines the cards up in columns. Drag slider keeps the same card size but lets shoppers swipe sideways through the quotes
  1. Add the section (see above).
  2. In the sidebar, set the Heading — for example “What pet parents say”.
  3. Click the first example quote and replace the Text, Author, and Author details.
  4. Set the Star rating for that quote.
  5. Optionally upload an Avatar, a Review photo, and pick a Product to link.
  6. Repeat for every quote, then delete the example quotes you don’t use.
  7. Save and check the page on desktop and phone widths.

SettingDefaultOptionsWhat it does
TextExample quoteRich textThe quote itself. Keep it short — one or two sentences read best
Author“Jamie & Peanut”TextThe customer’s name (or the name they use)
Author details“Pet parent”TextShort line under the name, e.g. how they describe themselves or their pet
AvatarEmptyImage pickerSmall round photo next to the name. Without one, the first letter of the author’s name shows in a colored circle
Review photoEmptyImage pickerOptional photo at the top of the card, bleeding to its edges — a customer photo of the product works well. Landscape around 1200 x 900 px
ProductEmptyProduct pickerAdds a small strip at the bottom of the card with the product image and name, linking to that product’s page
Star rating51–5, step 1How many of the five stars are filled. Pick the rating the customer actually gave
  • Avatar: a square headshot works best; it is cropped to a circle around 44 px.
  • Review photo: landscape around 1200 x 900 px. It fills the full width at the top of the card, so make sure the subject sits in the middle.
  • Keep quotes to two or three sentences — the cards stay balanced when the text lengths are similar.
  • Use neutral, honest author details such as “Pet parent” or a first name. Avoid claims that imply the purchase was verified or checked, since you cannot prove that on the page.
  • Quote real wording from real customers. The theme has no review collection built in, so every card is only as trustworthy as the source you copied it from.
  • You write the ratings, not the theme. The stars on each card are the rating you set for that quote. They are not connected to product review apps or any review data.
  • Tint cards cycle in a fixed order. Cream, lilac, mint, apricot, then back to cream — the position of the card decides its color, so the pattern stays consistent as you add or reorder quotes.
  • The product strip is a plain link. It opens the product page; it does not add the product to the cart.
  • Drag slider has no autoplay. Shoppers move through the quotes by swiping or dragging — nothing rotates on its own.
  • Missing avatars are fine. A card without an avatar photo shows the first letter of the author’s name in a colored circle instead.

Home page trust row (White card). Heading “What pet parents say”, 3 columns, Grid layout, four quotes with 4–5 star ratings and avatars, no review photos. A calm, credible strip under a product collection.

Lookbook closer (Tint card). Tint card style, Drag slider layout, 3 columns, six short quotes each linked to the product it mentions. Shoppers swipe through real feedback and can tap through to any product.

Can the section collect reviews from customers? No. The section only displays quotes and ratings you enter yourself. To gather reviews, use a review app and its own display tools — product star ratings from real review data are shown elsewhere in the theme, on product cards and product pages.

The example quotes are still showing. The section starts with three example quotes. Click each one in the sidebar and replace the Text, Author, and Author details — or remove the blocks you don’t need and add your own.

Why do my tint cards have different colors? With the Tint card style, the colors cycle cream → lilac → mint → apricot based on each card’s position in the row. That is by design so the row looks varied but predictable.

My review photo looks cropped. The Review photo fills the top of the card and crops to fit. Landscape photos around 1200 x 900 px with the subject centered survive the crop best.

The product strip doesn’t show. Each Testimonial block needs a product picked in its Product setting. The strip appears only when a product is selected.
