Custom Liquid

Custom Liquid adds merchant-provided custom content to a template. It is different from Custom section, which is a container for theme content blocks.

  1. Open the theme editor from Online Store → Themes.
  2. Choose the template you want to edit.
  3. Select Add section → Custom Liquid.
  4. Enter your content in Custom Liquid, then save.
  1. Duplicate your theme before adding custom code.
  2. Add Custom Liquid to the copied theme.
  3. Paste only content you understand and know how to support.
  4. Keep Full width off and both spacing values at 32 px to begin.
  5. Preview the result on desktop and phone before publishing your theme.

Use accessible headings, meaningful image alternatives, and content that fits a phone screen. A section cannot make arbitrary third-party code accessible or fast automatically.

  • Empty content is hidden in both the editor and storefront. Select the section in the sidebar to enter content.
  • A same-named content block is available in compatible theme-block containers. Product and Featured product also have their own Custom Liquid blocks; use the entry for the area you want to change.
  • Theme support does not automatically include third-party customizations. Confirm support with the code provider and ask a Shopify Partner for help when needed.
  • Avoid putting private credentials in theme content. Anything displayed or delivered to the storefront can be read by visitors.

Content within the page: keep Full width off and both spacing values at 32 px. Use this for a small custom information area.

Full-width content: turn Full width on and set both spacing values to 0 px when your custom content supplies its own spacing. Check the content itself on phones.

Why is the section invisible? The content is empty. Add the content in the sidebar; the theme does not create a visible placeholder.

Will this install an app? No. Follow the app’s installation instructions and use an App block when the app provides one.

Will third-party code work automatically? Compatibility depends on that code. Test it in a copied theme and confirm its support arrangements.
